Kara and Mrig's Eastern India and New England Fusion Wedding

Mrig and Kara’s wedding day aesthetic is a blend of Eastern India and New England - the regions that their families call home. While being a world apart, with one region ancient and the other nascent by comparison, the overlapping hallmarks of the regions are compelling. Both are the bedrock of their countries' histories. Water is the lifeblood of both. And both have been home to notable philosophers, writers, academics, artists and global leaders.

It was so fun to find different ways to bring out both of Kara and Mrig’s cultures through the design and experience of the wedding. We love helping couples make their wedding day an authentic celebration of who they are as individuals and as a unit.

Here’s how both Eastern India and New England have been represented in the design for Mrig and Kara’s wedding:

  • Garlands dripping of richly colored buds - particularly carnations - gesture to the flower markets of Kolkata

  • Fabric draped from the ceilings are inspired by saree markets across Eastern India as well as the sailcloth found in New England ports

  • Candle and lantern treatments are inspired by sea lanterns

  • Cushy velvet furniture like that found in a university library, with the furniture’s rich colors inspired by saree and flower markets

  • On the tables, accents of beach glass and mercury glass as well as the lush feel of colorful velvet and flowers

  • The Joinery, with handcrafted accents that lean into history, is the perfect backdrop for the blended design
